Celebrate WA is very proud to present the biggest celebration of Western Australian contemporary music ever held in the state!

A premium selection of home-grown stars in all music styles will come together for an inspiring one day event to be held in and around the prestigious Perth Concert Hall on Sunday 3 June between midday and 11.00pm.

The event will feature a local line up with combined record sales exceeding 2 million and literally thousands of live shows under their belts to show you what we are made of. Western Australian music has come a very long way and is now very influential on the world stage. State of the Art is all about celebrating the unique and brilliant musicians born and bred in WA.

You can catch ESKIMO JOE in Concert Hall Session 1 from 1:00pm with Jebediah!

Over fifty years, 47 albums and more than 500 songs ago, Bob Dylan released his debut album. Since then, his music has achieved an unparalleled position in our collective imagination, with a body of work that transcends generation gaps, musical fads, and genre distinctions.

In July 2012, to celebrate Dylan’s 50th anniversary as a recording artist, five of Australia’s distinctive 21st century performers will join forces to honour this remarkable legacy in their own unique voices. Kav Temperley will join forces with multi-platinum troubadour Josh Pyke, Jebediah singer/guitarist Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans), singer-songwriter Holly Throsby and The Grates’ powerhouse vocalist Patience Hodgson.

National Close The Gap Day Today

Today is National Close The Gap Day and a fitting day for Kav, Joel and Stu would like to announce they are official ambassadors of the Close The Gap campaign! Today will see over 100,000 people around the country taking part in community events to remind political leaders of their commitments to end the Indigenous health crisis.

The campaign aims to close the Indigenous life expectancy gap by 2030. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples die more than ten years younger than other Australians and Indigenous infant mortality is more than two times that of other Australians.

"I consider the life expectancy gap between Indigenous people and other Australians to be one of the most important issues facing Australia, and one that has been neglected for such a long time," Kav said. "A lot of people in this country are aware of the fact that Indigenous people are disadvantaged, but so many people aren't aware of just how much. Indigenous health is an issue that all Australians should read up on and help spread the word, because it is possible to close the gap in our lifetime."

Close The Gap campaign co-chair and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Mick Gooda welcomed Eskimo Joe's commitment to the campaign.

"Eskimo Joe have taken the time to learn about some of the health problems facing Aboriginal people and have seen first-hand some of the work that Indigenous people are doing for themselves to close the life expectancy gap," Commissioner Gooda said. "The Australian Government has committed to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their representatives on health inequality to develop a long term health plan, but we need to ensure that partnership is genuine. We must ensure that Indigenous people are at the heart of decision-making about their health needs."

The Close The Gap campaign was formed by over 40 Indigenous, health and human rights organisations in 2006 and has over 175,000 registered supporters committed to closing the gap on life expectancy. Aboriginal Australians experience higher rates of preventable illness such as heart and kidney disease. Babies born to Aboriginal mothers dies at more than twice the rate of other Australian babies.

The Wastelands, Breath of Life and a new record

Hey all, it's been a while since we've seen you, so I thought I'd keep you up-to-date on the happenings of the Joe.

Our studio, the Wastelands, is up and fully operational. An amazing band from Perth, The Chemist, have just finished recording their debut album, and it's a cracker. We've been in there every day for the last few weeks, slapping paint on walls, painting murals, nailing wood panels to the walls, stretching fabric and generally making it look sweet. I'll take some photos in the next day or two so you can all see how it's going.

As for the live front, we're playing the Breath of Life Festival in Launceston this weekend. If you're around the area, grab yourself a ticket and head down, the lineup is great, should be a huge night.

Writing has commenced for the new record, some very interesting early ideas springing forth. We're really keen to relax and have fun with this one, so you never know what we might come up with. We're open to anything, with the possible exception of Funk Metal :)

A stunning atmosphere, an intimate show and two huge bands - a cracker of a night! If you were lucky enough to win tickets, as that was the only way to get in, we hope you loved it! From all accounts so far, it was amazing! If you missed out, video footage of Eskimo Joe's performance of "Love Is A Drug" is now up. The full show will be aired in the coming weeks - details to come.
